FAD DIETING CAN MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT INSTEAD OF LOSING ?



A fad diet is one which are devoid of nutrients required by our body in sufficient amounts. It is also termed as crash diet. Some well known fad diet includes :        

  • Cabbage soup diet
  • Apple cider vinegar diet
  • Grapefruit diet and many more…….
Characteristics of a fad diet :
  • Recommendations that promise a quick fix.
  • Claims that sound too good to be true.
  • Recommendations based on non-scientific evidences.
  • Eliminates one or more food groups completely from the diet.
  • No sound evidences in favour of the diet.
MYTH
   A fad diet can make you lose weight quickly and maintain the same throughout.


FACT

A fad diet may provide short-term results but losing weight is hard because they are difficult to stick to and moreover these can affect the healthy adversely and make a person trapped in the vicious cycle of losing & gaining weight.

YO – YO Dieting
Fad can result is quick weight loss as this weight loss is not the fat loss from the body but the water loss which occurs as a consequence of dieting. The further weight loss does not occur as weight remains the constant. Moreover quickly it is very difficult to stick to these fad diet so eating anything which is restricted can make you gain even more weight. This vicious cycle of losing and gaining weight associated with fad dieting, known as yo-yo effect or yo-yo dieting.


ASSOCIATED HEALTH PROBLEMS

As fad diets often cut out key foods fad diets may lead to :
  • Dehydration
  • Weakness & fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Various deficiencies
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
CONCLUSION

There is no magic pill or diet will can suddenly help you to shed weight a constant workout combined with balanced diet will be the answer to lose weight.
